Psalm 51:1-2

DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration: Psalm 51:1-2 – Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.

Today we get a glimpse of who is truly in control when it comes to us being right in the eyes of God. Being a sinner in this life is hard enough as it is. It messes with our consciousness, it makes us hold onto regrets and it destroys our ability to connect with one another in a genuine way. Well how do we take this thing called sin and rid ourselves of it? Unfortunately, you never will! But there is a hope that we profess and its available to all.

One of the most beautiful things about God’s loves is how he expresses it toward us. Even though God knew that sin would eventually enter into the world, He still loved us enough and wanted us to be with Him enough to have a plan to cleanse us of our sins. When Jesus came to Earth, He was truthful in his saying “I have come not to judge, but to save”. God’s mercy was on us and his love was extended to us in and through Jesus.

God’s plan was made complete in Jesus’ obedience to death on the cross for our sins. In times of old, sacrifices were made on a daily for the sins of man. The problem was that the symbolic death of something innocent (the sacrifice of animals) wasn’t good enough if it had to be done every day! Sin wasn’t being taken away because of the sacrifice, it was an acknowledgement of your sin which meant you knew something needed to die in order that your sinful deed could be covered.

So what does this mean for us? When Jesus died on the cross for our sins, it was a righteous sacrifice that was sufficient and acceptable to God. There wasn’t any need for a daily sacrifice any longer. Jesus had done it all in one shot! The love God has for us allowed his son to take on every sin of mankind and die just so that sins would be covered for those who would believe Jesus took their place for all the wrong they had done.

Furthermore, our sins are now covered – if you believe. Every time you think of something wrong, Jesus has covered it! Every time you do something you know is wrong, Jesus covered it! Every time you allow yourself to be compromised, Jesus has you covered!

What does it all mean in the end? To acknowledge the sacrifice of Jesus for your sins doesn’t eliminate them, but covers them so you don’t have to pay the price for what you deserve. This is how you experience God’s mercy. The love that he has for you is available through the one He sent – Jesus Christ. Jesus’ blood is the washing away, the cleansing of our sins but it is only through Him that you can be able to rid yourself of the tricks of the enemy and enjoy the fruits of the mercy of God and have a hope of being with him for eternity.

Today, if you’re not experiencing the unfailing love of God and have the guilt of sin rising up in your life, we pray that you can be rid of your sinful mindset and the tricks of hopelessness and turn to Jesus since he has loving comfort available for you and forgiveness of all you’ve done and/or will do. Sin will be in this life until the end. Let Jesus’ teachings show you how to avoid the traps of sin and overcome your natural inclinations, so you can become a vessel that shows the power of God being lavished on your life by His true love and mercy. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
