Psalm 27:4

DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration: Psalm 27:4 – One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.

Do you long to be with Christ in heaven? If you had one wish that was guaranteed to be granted, what would it be? Many of us have ambitions in this life to acquire a lot of “things” and it shows in what we have as our priorities. It is ok to want to be a contributing member of society. It’s even ok to want to make a living to take care of your family. What isn’t ok, if we have all of these things be more important to us than being with God! Now you’re probably like, “I have to have these things to survive on this planet. God doesn’t want me to be lazy and abandon my responsibilities.” To that you would say, “You are absolutely correct!” God expects us to do what is necessary in this life to function in this society, but in that He wants us trust in him to provide all of those needs – not for us to waste precious time trying to acquire these things on your own strength, knowledge, and know-how; which He gave you in the first place…. But I digress.

The writer here lets us into his heart to see what is really important to him but he takes it a step forward beyond what we typically do today. We say we want to serve God but we still want to be able to do whatever we want and there be no consequences. We want to follow portions of the bible but when it comes to something we don’t agree with, now everything in the bible is wrong. We want to experience the inheritance of God but no one is willing to kill their sinful nature and die to their desires to receive it (as you know, no one receives an inheritance, even nowadays, unless someone dies!). The writer here says that there is only one thing that he asks of the Lord. This is profound because every day God gives us another day to where we can ask for something specific in our lives. What have you been using that opportunity to ask for? What is most important to you? Is it the new car, the new job, the bigger house, the cool friends, the luxuries of life? Or is it to be in God’s church learning about him? Is it to apply all that he’s teaching you from his word? Is it to please him in your actions, speech, and desires? Is it to be more like him in nature and less like the sinful person you’ve been? Is it for others to see how he’s changed your life and give them hope he can do the same for them? Is it just to be with him in heaven forever?

If your eyes are reading this devotional today, the Spirit of God may be talking to you! Now I’m just a vessel able to type out this message for you, however, God always uses people to get his message, agenda and will done. What might be shaken up inside of you right now that God may want YOU to do? Could it be to get reconnected with your old church, could it be to start going to church, could it be to make a change in your life you know is needed, or could it be for you to just desire him more so he can grant your wish?

We pray today that whatever the reason you’re reading this meditation for, it sits well with your soul. We pray this message is kindling a fire in you that sparks a flame to only desire to be with God and concerned about what he is most concerned about. What could be more wonderful than dwelling with your Creator forever? I assure you, there is NOTHING in this world that could compare. May your views on the things of this world shift and a longing for what will matter and last in the end blossom in your life! In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
