Proverbs 21:21

DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration: Proverbs 21:21 – Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor.

So we find out what’s important in life, we put things in order of priority and then we do what? Well today’s scripture would suggest that we pursue righteousness and love. There are many benefits of placing the things of this world in the proper order. One of them being that we start to care less about them and begin to focus on what is going to last. We gain an outward view of inward desires and we’re able to boldly attest to those prospects. In spiritual terms, we’re able to lock in on God and tune out the static on worldly channels. God becomes a bit clearer and as many would say, “you will see the light”.

As cliché as that phrase is, it leads us to the topic of today’s verse and meditation. As avid scholars and searchers of God’s word we understand that God is light and in him there is no darkness. The light that is represented here is the idea of purity and cleanliness – righteousness. The dualism, of course, of that is darkness; the representation of dirty, lifelessness – sin. With that in mind we have to consider a couple of things; 1) we will either see the light and follow its path which leads to righteousness or 2) we won’t see anything but darkness and continue to wander aloof in this life.

The path of darkness is strangely easy to embark upon. Why? Because you can do anything you want! You don’t need or have to have any direction. You can be aimless in your efforts and because of that lack of direction; but you can suffer those benefits as well. Think about it, if you’re lost in the darkness of the woods, how would you know if you’re making any progress in your journey to get out? Do you know if you’re passing the same spots over and over again? Do you know if you’re any closer to you goal of getting back to civilization? Do you even keep moving forward for fear of the unknown? Darkness stifles us in all areas of our lives. We aren’t effective nor going anywhere when we’re all over the place and going everywhere.

Now take path of light. It’s odd but when you think about it, light can be difficult to deal with. Hear me out for a moment; have you ever looked into any source of light? What happened? It is hard to look at light and not be blinded. Light’s radiance is tough to look upon and feel secure with because of its blinding effects. However when we look a bit more closely that is exactly where God wants and needs us to be! Imagine if you were the carrier of light or light itself – you’d be the one in control. You could direct the paths, you could lead the way and you could blind others and make them dependent on you. Problem with you being the light is you won’t know where you’re going! But thank God he is the light!!! When we look to pursue God we should be blinded by him to the point we are absolutely only following him. His light should have us solely dependent upon him and ever reaching to where he is guiding us to go. It’s beautiful in actuality. When we look at God’s light (righteousness) we do feel insecure, inadequate and sometimes fearful to release and strictly rely on the light. We have to give over our lives and trust the one who has light because we’re blinded; we wouldn’t know where to go any ways (sound familiar?)! The other side of that beauty is that because we’re following that light (righteousness), it will lead us to exactly where there is true life, prosperity and honor and he leads us rightly because of his love for us!

Do you trust God enough today to let his righteousness lead you? There isn’t much I know in this life but one thing I can say with confidence; Allowing God to lead you will never result in you being lost. Furthermore, if he is who we pursue, we can absolutely expect abundance in our lives (now I don’t know when, it could be in this life or in the one to come but either way you will reap the benefits of God by chasing him)!

Today we pray that your desire is to grow in the area of pursuing God, his righteousness and his love. Be a stalker of God; I’m positive he won’t mind at all. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!!
