Philippians 3:13-14

DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration:  Philippians 3:13-14 – Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Happy Veteran’s Day to all. Today we want to be simple and short but allow the power of God’s word to ring in your heart, mind and soul as you take a day of leisure (if you’re lucky enough).

They say that the past shapes our future. The experiences and circumstances of our youth have made us who we inevitably turn out to be. However, for a child of God; a Christian believer who has taken up the cause of Christ in their life, you are no longer shaped by your past. It has no relevance nor does it dictate who you are to be in Christ…now that he has given you a new life! This new life we often speak of is exactly that. It’s a fresh start. It is the freedom in being broken out of bondage and slavery and given the ability to live a fresh, new and different existence. We forget the old habits which we were trapped in and embrace that which God has given us; a life he wants to full up with his goodness (through his word), a future that is unhindered (not being bound to the same sinful life we once had), and a hope that is promised (salvation through Jesus Christ) – a new goal to reach (because he gave us freedom, we don’t long for that anymore), the prize of being with him in heaven forever (the ultimate call and execution of the faithful work Jesus Christ did on the cross).

Today we pray that if you’re living this life still in bondage in your mind, heart, and spirit that you see although no one will ever reach or attain the required level of spiritual perfection required to be with God, we DO have the freedom given by God through Jesus Christ to press toward that perfection through our endurance, faith, and an assured hope in the prize we’ll receive in the end. What are you pressing toward in your life today and more importantly, what will be your goal or prize in the end? God has one for us all and it is available through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Accept his freedom so you can be rid of and forget your years of bondage and strive towards your eternity in heaven. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
