Matthew 6:33

DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration:  Matthew 6:33 – But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.

There isn’t much to say when we look at today’s scripture for meditation. I wanted to paint a vivid picture for you that would illustrate the intricacies of the Word of God. That being said, sometimes you just have to take God’s word for exactly what it says. There are no tricks, underlying meanings, or gimmicks when we concentrate on the words in this text. The suggestion, in part, is the most significant of the text. Let us evaluate.

The Word of God says that if we seek to put his kingdom and his righteousness first in our lives, all these things will be given to us. What are these things? Well for a better understanding we have to look back a few verses to see what Jesus was addressing that people were so concerned about or asking for. The context of the scripture was Jesus teaching the people about worrying. Worrying about if they were going to eat, what they were going to wear, and if they would have drink. Does this sound familiar? We worry about all these things and so much more nowadays. We’re concerned about the car we drive, the house we live in, the mate that we chose, the education that we get, the job we have and everything else that our hearts chase after. Jesus tells us that all of our worrying over these things won’t add a day to our lives. In many cases, worrying starts to decrease our lives because of the stress of worrying. It literally kills us from within. When we are worried about these things we are consumed with the world. We are actually saying (not verbally) that these things are most important in life. These things take priority in our daily living. We are more concerned about these things – which God knows we need anyways – than with what God wants done in our lives.

The worst part is that our worry over these things won’t make them come any faster or at all. They strip us of energy and we put these things on a pedestal above God when he’s already promised us that he would GIVE us these things!! Have you ever worked super hard for something? Let’s say a job promotion. You put in the work, you dedicated yourself to the regimen that was needed to accomplish the goal, you sacrificed time with family and friends, you did everything! Then someone comes in (seemingly) having done nothing, gets your prize! WAIT WHAT!!!???? All of that for nothing? What happened? God gave the prize away! Now that’s not to say that the person was a Christian or not but it teaches us a lesson in the fact that all we do is for nothing if it isn’t done with God at the forefront. God knows what we need and he will supply IF we worry about the things he is concerned about – not what we’re concerned about.

Our souls are more important to God than anything else in the universe. He truly loves his creation. We all want the things in life without God in them but for the true Christian, we understand that there is no real life in anything without God! Instead of  worrying about what the world has to offer, and more importantly – if it will let you have it, we need to put God in the place of priority in our lives by seeking his kingdom and his righteousness first and he will GIVE to us the supplies we need and other things you’re not aware we need.

Today we have an opportunity to get on track to having all of our needs (and some of our wants) taken care of. Our Father God is more than capable of giving us all the things we need – that are beneficial for building up his kingdom and sustaining you in this life – but what are you worried about today? Is it how much you can make this year, how good you’re going to look this weekend, how much you’re going spend on some new shoes or is it how you can live your life right by God’s principles and make him be moved to bless you because of your obedience, commitment and conviction of putting him first….no matter what? We have a decision to make today, either we are going to keep chasing the things of this world that elude most of us or we’re going to only concern ourselves with Christ and let him just give us these things. Worrying about one thing (Christ and his business) and getting everything else added to you is way better than worrying about all the things of this life and having nothing in the end. Let’s work smarter, not harder – for nothing! In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
