Matthew 12:50

DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration: Matthew 12:50 – For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”

What identifies you? Is it your looks? Do people ever tell you how much you look like your mother or father? Can someone pick your child out in a crowded room? If someone meet you and didn’t know you were their own friend’s child, could they put two & two together? I think there’s a lot to be said about being a reflection of where you’re from. It shows pride, it shows deep roots and it shows oneness.

People can pick up on all of these characteristics because of who our parents are, what we were taught and how we conduct ourselves. I’m sure you’ve even said to someone, “you act just like your…..” or “that is definitely ______’s child”. How do you know for sure though? Is it something that is spoken or relayed? Or could it simply be the attributes of the parents that identify you’re a part of a specific family?

In this Christian life, there should be a great parallel that is directly in this same vain. When people look at your life, they should easily be able to point to only one reason for the way you are. Just as we can be identified by our actions, facial expressions, responses and thought processes in our natural families, so should it be in our supernatural families.

Notice that I didn’t say our godly supernatural family. I’m sure you’ve already guessed why. The reason is because there are two (2) supernatural families. Of course there is God’s family and then there is the devil’s family. Have you ever noticed when two actual friends try to pass themselves off to others as being brothers or sisters, people look at them confused and in disbelief because they don’t act the same at all! They don’t even think or conduct themselves the same in any way. Well maybe it’s because they don’t see the resemblance. Physically things looks uncertain and morally things just don’t add up. In some instances, it’s too good to be true. Why is that? Well, we all know that even in a family there will be a few apples that fall further away from the tree than others, however, there should be something that can still identify the majority. The same can be said about our supernatural family in God. Yes, there will be some who don’t hold to the same principles of our heavenly Father, BUT……there should definitely be some resemblance in the majority of those who say that their in God’s family. It’s impossible to be in the family and not have any traits, actions, thoughts, demeanor, or cares as those of the Father. The passage today reveals to us that if we are actively doing the will of our Father, then we are considered Jesus’ brothers, sisters, and mother.

With that being said, which family are you a part of? Based on your life and how you do things, who would people identify your supernatural family resemblance to?

Our prayer today is that you start looking, acting, dealing and presenting yourself more like your Father in heaven and not like any other family. Trust me, you don’t want to be part of a family that breeds destruction. What hope do you really think you have in that?

Be encouraged today and move forward in the knowledge of the gospel. Pick a family; you can only be in one. Our prayer is that you desire to be in God’s. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
