Luke 2:6-7

DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration: Luke 2:6-7 – While they were there, the days were completed for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

We all know what wonderful event occurred in this moment; our Savior Jesus Christ was born! This is a phenomenal thing for many reasons but one of the most important is that God came down to actually be with His people and eventually die for us. Among the common knowledge items, there is a section of this story that we overlook when we are not heart and soul connected to who God is and the love of Christ. Let us see if we can tackle this.

Jesus was born and cared for as any other baby would be (although He wasn’t just any other baby) however since others didn’t recognize who He was (God incarnate; The King; Lord and Savior); there was no place for Him in the inn. To make today’s devotional brief, let’s get right to some application and see how we can be better on this eve of the celebration of our Lord Jesus Christ.

What does this say for you and me? The parallel here is amazing! From Christ’s very birth we see that people would not make room for Him. They left Him out and didn’t recognize the privilege of having Him be with them; even then. For us today, we are plagued by the same mentality! The inn in this story would be symbolic of the place where Christ would have lived. As we grow in establishing our own relationships with God, Jesus’ inn is inside of us; He will live in the hearts of people WHO WELCOME HIM IN!!!! Let’s go a bit further: Jesus is with all of us, every day of our lives. He’s right there, outside, waiting for a welcome into our hearts but yet we never have room enough for Him. On the day in which our Christian ancestral reformers chose to celebrate the birth of our Savior, we have turned it into a day of given gifts to everyone but the one we’re celebrating. We celebrate Christmas but don’t invite Christ to live in our hearts so we can celebrate Him the way He should be; in the way you would celebrate a Holy Savior King! Do we have any room in our hearts on a daily basis to invite Christ into our lives? What a privilege it is to be considered as a vessel that God would even think of living in! The reason for this season is in understanding why there is a celebration. Jesus’ birth meant that He was here for us and to complete the work that was set out for Him to do so that we could be together forever. Do you want miss out on that opportunity?

Today we pray that as we make room for everything else in our lives that would please others that we stop and begin to make room in our lives daily to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ – especially tomorrow. Many will turn Him away and say they don’t have room in their lives for Him but what will you do? How will you treat Christ’s birthday? How would you feel if everyone you knew came to your birthday party and exchanged gifts with everyone there but you – and it’s your birthday?! As you wake up every day to a new day Christ is alive and waiting for an invite to come into your inn (heart). Make room for Jesus daily because not only is it a privilege to be occupied by Him, it’s where He wants to be – even on His birthday. We pray you get this passion and it reflects in you actively inviting Jesus into your homes and hearts on Christmas day and every day thereafter that He gives you. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
