Joshua 1:8

DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration: Joshua 1:8 – Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips, meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

There are no shortcuts in this life. Everything we do is a stepping stone to get to the next level in some area of our lives. As babies we go from rolling, to crawling, to making our first steps. As children, we go from being at home to taking on school and developing social skills. As teenagers we go from awkwardness, through puberty, to acne, to having our first job and into adulthood. As college students we go from being home and have cooked meals, to being our own, having to make decisions for ourselves and applying everything we’ve learned into practical form we can succeed on our own at something. It goes on and on but what remains consistent is what we put in us that grows and matures us into products that are useful for something.

No matter where you are at in your life, we’ve gotten there because of growth. Whether you grew in negativity or positivity it shaped you into the person you are today. We’ve all had these building blocks from life’s teachings and experiences that have molded the characters that we’ve come to embrace or try and figure out. The problem with this is that when we fill our lives up on the things of this world, we have to suffer just as this world suffers. Apart from God and his word, no matter your circumstances, the climb up to growth is filled with turmoil, strife, resentment, frustration and anger. Why? Simply put it is because we are doing things our way or the way that we’ve seen others who operate from a world view have done things. It’s problematic because NO ONE can tell you how to live this life exactly right and it work out for you! If that were the case we could put our hope in regular men to be imitators of.

However, when we build our lives on God’s word from the bible we get a different prospective; not only on what is important in life but how to navigate this life, what our focus should be on in this life, how to be filled in this life and more importantly, who and what to be filled with. These are critical building blocks for maturity in the faith. When you’re a student or for that matter, anyone who is learning something, the more of that you pour into yourself, the better you will be at living it out. You can’t see the results of God’s word working in your life if you don’t have in you; just as if you never study for a test, you can’t expect to pass.  You can’t be effective at knowing what God wants you to do with your life to be successful in his eyes if you’re not finding out what He needs you to know. You get stronger in your knowledge and awareness of what to do when you’re regularly in God’s word just as with any particular subject you’d study. Most importantly, once you gain the wisdom and have effectively used it, you can teach it to others and help them to be better also!

One of the greatest benefits of living by the Word of God (the bible) is that it comes with a guarantee; a promise! When we go about this life thinking that we’ve learned it all or we know what to do with our lives or we’ve gotten things all figured out, this is when we are at our worst state of being. We have no power to guarantee anything in our lives. We can’t make ourselves successful or prominent. We can work as hard (or harder) than everyone else on this planet and still end up in a “dead-end job”, why does that happen? It happens because our way is actually no way at all because neither can we see where we’re going, know what is coming at us or if we’re even going the right way! Thank God for his word! As we follow, meditate, gain knowledge and wisdom, and enforce his will and teachings into our lives, we are promised success and prosperity! It is a promise of God and God doesn’t lie! What we can’t get caught up in is thinking that the success and prosperity are always going to be money, cars, houses, high profile jobs and the like. What if you were stress-free for life? What if you never had to encounter recurring arguments? What if you never had to worry about life or death? How successful do you think that would make you – especially in the eyes of someone who can only stress, feel defeated by the world or has no hope at all? We have to change our prospective.

Today we pray that you begin to look at God’s word more diligently, with more interest and a hope to experience his promises. If you want to have success and prosperity that is eternal, get the right foundation. Your journey start when you begin to build on the Book that leads us in the way we should go. As you make the bible your life, will see the fruits of implementing its teachings and you WILL experience success like you never thought before. But first things first, get in your bible. Skipping steps in life make you incomplete and unsuitable for the tasks of life. Don’t be unusable for the work God wants to do in your life. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
