DaySpiring Daily of Inspiration: John 8:12 – When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Have you ever noticed that what you follow, in many ways shapes who you are or what you become. If you follow or hang around surgeons, you’ll potentially become a surgeon. If you follow or hang around athletes, you’ll potentially become an athlete. If you follow or hang around politicians, you’ll potentially become a politician yourself.

One of the attribute of following is that you pick up the traits, mannerisms, and patterns of the one you’re following. It is evident in the way you walk, talk, and carry yourself. People can absolutely see what is inside of you and moreover what is important to you.

Jesus makes it clear that the same affect is available when we follow Him. There is nothing new under the sun. The principles in this life are all ordered by God so why wouldn’t this same principle be true in the heavenly realm.

When we are dedicated to following Jesus, we are putting ourselves in an amazing position. Just as when we follow the types of individuals I previously mentioned, as you follow Christ you will begin to look like Him in all of His ways.

In following Jesus your habits will change, your mindset will change, your heart towards other people will change and the great part is that others will be able to see it! This power is the transformation of someone changing from their idea of who they are into what they have come to love.

Do you love Jesus enough to follow him and make a change in your life that resembles Him? I think the scary thing is when you see someone who claims to be something but you wouldn’t believe them because of what they do, how they act or how they talk. Example, I can’t claim to be a lawyer or follow lawyers if I don’t know any lawyers, nor do I have any lawyer friends, nor do I know who the popular lawyers are, or if I’ve never went to law school.

If you claim to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, today we want to get better at following his example vs. being an example that no one would want to follow. Make God attractive every day and let His light of life shine through your spirit!
