Heart Check

Many people believe that we should live our lives however we want, and get as much in this life as we want because “YOLO”. However, one who is a Christ follower, doesn’t believe in YOLO, because we know that life does not end when we die, but rather we will live for eternally, either in the presence of God in Heaven, or eternally separated from God, in hell. Therefore, as Christ followers our main goal in this life is to live for Jesus, devoting our lives to Him, helping to build His Kingdom, to worship and glorify Him, and to help lead others to Him.

God instructs us on how to live and warns us of things to avoid (worldliness)…

1- Not love the world or things in the world, because if we do, we don’t love God (1 John 2:15)
2- Do not love money because the love of money is the root of all evil, (1 Tim 6:10)
3- Do not have friendship with the world, if you do, you become an enemy of God (James 4:4)

We often say that only God can judge me, when we think someone is being critical of us or our lifestyle. We don’t want any correction or accountability, even if it comes from someone who has our best interest at heart. We turn our nose to the truth, and are comfortable in our sinful lifestyles. But what we fail to realize is that God really does know our heart. We can’t fool Him.

So the question is, do we really want to stand before a just, holy and perfect God on the Day of Judgment, with our hearts as-is, knowing that He will judge our hearts? Are we prepared to do so? Are you ready to give an account for your life? I don’t know about you, but I can handle a little “judgment” or criticism by a human. At most my feelings may be a little hurt, my ego might have a dent in it. But, I fear the judgment of God. For God tells us, “Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10:28)

As a Christ follower we must truly examine our hearts, examine our lives, and our motives. Are we doing the work of God, or focused on building up riches, possessions on this earth? Do we genuinely love the Lord, and live FOR Him, or live for ourselves? Be as honest as possible. For God will be the final judge.

May the Lord open our eyes to see and our ears to hear. May we know the truth, and the truth set us free.
