Galatians 6:9-10

DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration:  Galatians 6:9-10 – Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

It goes against our nature to be the upstanding person all of the time. The phrase, “be the more mature person” gets canceled out when we are offended and hurt. I can go as far as to say that it can get a little tiring being the one who does good to others. We can become inwardly focused on how we feel and overlook why it’s important to do so. There is a benefit on both sides of the coin for the Christian believer who doesn’t give up in doing this to all people, especially those in the body of Christ.

On one side, we have what people see. This is important because what people see in and from you is usually what they associate you with. In doing good to others, even when it’s hard on us, we’re tired, or someone doesn’t deserve it – if gives everyone watching you a new and different perspective. When people can see you deliberately making sure you’re the pillar of goodness in the midst of someone being dork, it gives YOU an opportunity that you could have never gotten on your own. The opportunity is to introduce somebody to Jesus and his love. When someone inquires about your acts of goodness amidst the fire, you can point to Jesus. In His proper time, the harvest of another soul being saved adds to God’s kingdom and your own spiritual bank account. This is the great compensation for your doing good! At least this is what our hearts should want most of all anyways – for this is what God wants! Remember God will reward you for the work that you do for Him. With that, don’t just believe that you’ll receive what God has for you to reap here on Earth. We as Christians must always keep our minds and hearts set on things above and that our rewards are stored up in heaven; any blessings that are levied on us while on earth are just extras.

On the other side, we have what God sees. As it’s been said, God looks at the hearts of men to determine if their love and actions are genuine. When we exhibit a heart of doing good to everyone, especially the body of believers, without ulterior motives, God blesses that! The heart of the matter comes back to (and I’m paraphrasing) working for others as if you were working for the Lord. The mindset in this case would point to a heart that as we work hard for the Lord in doing good by his commands, we do the same for His people! We do it out of the love, gratitude and faithfulness. Love for God is love for his people. Gratitude for God and his son Jesus displays itself in gratitude towards God’s people in having others to grow and journey with through this life. Faithfulness in God is faithfulness or commitment to his people that we’re all going to make it to heaven together – pulling each other along the way, so none of us ever give up, grow weary or loses our way. Having a heart like God’s will move Him and he WILL bless that heart!

Our doing good presents an opportunity for God to truly move in the lives of his people and encourages us in our hope and love of people! There is a harvest to reap when we are obedient to doing good and we continually do it. God has a proper time for everything that he does and our patience is crucial in the harvest being manifested in our lives or in the life to come.

Today we pray that as you look at your life, you can find your opportunities to do good to others daily – especially to those brothers and sisters we have in Christ, so that we can take God up on his promises. When we decide to just do good no matter the circumstances or how others may be acting, God will honor your efforts in sharing his heart. There are benefits on both sides of the coin in the way you treat people for Christ – how are you treating others and who is it for? Start your reaping in Christ today because you don’t want to reap benefits from the other source! In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
