Galatians 5:1

DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration: Galatians 5:1 – It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

Freedom is such a beautiful thing. Today in America, we pride ourselves on being the “Home of the Free”. Sounds beautiful….and it is! However, when someone is given freedom, what do you believe should be a natural reaction? Should it be an attitude of disregard, carelessness, utter vileness? By no means!! These are the very actions that will keep you imprisoned during your life. The wild part is that we do some of the worst things we can with our freedom. We live how we want. We treat people maliciously. We even go out of our way at times to inflict harm on others. This shouldn’t be so, especially if we call ourselves Christians.

In Christ, we have been set free. When I heard this as a young child I always wondered, “what are these old people talking about?” As I grew older, I started to understand this a bit better. The freedom in Christ that they would speak of was the freedom of our normal way of thinking and conducting ourselves. I didn’t have to be locked into the propaganda that the world would feed me or what I grew up on. The ideas and concepts that I had been bound by were broken by the truth…..and the truth……y’all know what I’m talking about! The truth was that God didn’t expect for me to go through life without focus or focused on the wrong things. There was a system of living that he wanted me to live because it was good for my life and produced something better than I could on my own. More importantly, there was a purpose and plan for my life! Thank you Jesus!

When you are freed from anything, there should be a remembrance of and a hope to. Let me explain. There should be a remembrance of how you felt, lived and were in your times of bondage; a reminder of the inadequacies that your life of slavery provided. Then, there should be a hope. A hope to find a new you by living in a way you haven’t before. A hope that gets you passed the hurts from your past and moreover a hope to never go back into slavery again!

Today we stand firm in that knowledge. We are no longer slaves to our sinful, detestable and ignorant ways of living but now live free in Christ to experience his wonderful mercy, grace, peace and attributes of a Christ-like lifestyle that brings about a hope for our life to come!

Don’t run back to what you were trying to get away from. I know it’s familiar and it’s comfortable but we are praying for you to stand strong and stay firm in Christ so your life can truly be free! Have a blessed day and remember, GOD FIRST!

In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
