DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration: Ephesians 5:25-26 – Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word.
We hope all of your Valentine’s Day activities made that special someone in your life feel loved, appreciated and uniquely yours. Isn’t it beautiful?; Love and the display of it can be such a wonderful thing. Now since we’re at today, is the feeling gone?
We take a lot of time and preparation out to make one day our greatest attempt to show our love and be overly affectionate but what about every other day? Valentine’s Day should be a daily activity that we wake up with excitement for continually. I know what you’re thinking…”You don’t know my husband or wife, they just get on my nerves at times!” Guess what this is true! HA! The problem isn’t the person (because none of us are perfect), the problem is we’re trying to love our spouses how we think we should and not how God wants us to!
The love God wants us to have on display is the same love that Jesus had. The selfless, humble, determined, obedient, sacrificial, “bigger picture” love. A love that is so understanding it makes exceptions for all of your mistakes. Moreover than that, Christ’s love is so great that even though he knew we would continue to hurt, lie, cheat, steal, disobey and put others before him, he still said, “I’ll do whatever it takes to show them my love….even to the death.” Our love, even on this one day, still can’t measure that.
The main reason we can’t compete with God’s love is because it is eternal. It is given to us daily and overly expressed in everything we do and everywhere we go. How could you compete? Well one of the sure ways to show a heart for wanting to take up the challenge is by being obedient to the word and following Christ’s example.
As we end, husbands & wives, let’s do better EVERYDAY to show the love of Christ to our spouses; and not for their approval but for the want and desire to show God that you are listening & trying to display a love that is truly out of this world and meant to be expressed by the perfect lover.
