Ephesians 3:17-18

DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration: Ephesians 3:17-18 – so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, and I pray that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,

We start this week sandwiched in the middle of Paul’s prayer to have the saint’s rooted in love and having Christ dwell in our hearts by faith as we reach to understand how much Christ loves us. He wants us to truly understand what that means and to hold tight to this truth as a collective body of believers.

As we walk through this life of Christianity, we are often put between a rock and a hard place. We are faced with the challenges of what we know and are used to, compared to where God is trying to take us and how he’d like us to live. In the same way, we are on a tight rope when it comes to truly embracing the love of Christ in our daily lives and taking it for granted.

In the body of Christ, our understanding of love, or Christ love for us should be a motivating factor. Suppose you need a kidney and no one in your family is welling nor able to give you what you need. However, along comes a stranger who is compelled to give to you freely a part of their own body. What kind of gratitude would that produce in your life? I’m going out on a limb here, but I’m sure you’d want to get to know this person. You would want to thank this person for saving your life. You would want to establish a relationship with this person. Most importantly, you’d want to know why they would do something so selfless for someone they didn’t know.

In the same way, this is a small depiction of our relationship with Christ, with a few differences. Christ’s love compelled him to save our lives (souls). Christ knew that you needed someone to step up to the plate. Christ already loved you as you were; no strings attached. Christ didn’t need any motivation to want to get to know you.

Where is our love for someone who loved us for no reason? What have we done in our lives that would make us a standout in Christ’s eyes? What could any of us do to show Christ that he made the right decision in dying for us? If you’re like me, you’re starting to get a real sense of how unworthy we truly. Based on my own understanding it would be almost impossible to understand why he did it.

The blessing in this is that through our faith and being rooted in love as a church, together, we can begin to walk the road of understanding. We need each other, on the same accord – reminding, lifting up and encouraging one another to gain solid foundations in God’s love for us so that the attributes of our gratefulness will manifest in lives of worship and service to God.

Today, we want you to be mindful and think on where you’re roots are grounded and what you’re producing because of the soil you’re planted in. If you’re rooted in love; gratitude and the fruits of the spirit should engulf your life and feed others Christ’s love. If you’re rooted in something else, we beg of you to uproot yourself and get into fresh, good, godly soil so your life can blossom as Christ’s love would want. Have an amazing start to your week and get together with your fellow believers so your understanding of Christ love can move you into a life of appreciation, gratitude, sacrifice and service. Be blessed and we pray all of these things in Jesus’ name, AMEN!
