Ecclesiastes 5:15

DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration: Ecclesiastes 5:15 – Everyone comes naked from their mother’s womb, and as everyone comes, so they depart. They take nothing from their toil that they can carry in their hands.

It’s funny where we get a lot of our sayings from today. As you mull over the scripture today I’m sure you’ve heard this said once or twice in your lifetime (if not more). I know for myself it has been said multiple times and I never considered its significance until just now. As we think about the surface of what the scripture is saying we get the picture of coming to the world with nothing and when we pass on, we’ll take none of the things that we’ve acquired in this life with us. However, the next line in that scripture gets deeper and had me ponder a question. I pray that after this meditation you can have a realistic look at what you’re answer is and see if God has pricked your heart to make it things better or continue with what you’ve been doing.

Most of my friends or other people in my life would say things like, “ball out” or “we make it to spend it” or even “can’t take it with you when you die so you might as well enjoy it now!” Now in my youth, I was all in agreement. Whether or not I was a frivolous as others, I won’t say but I will say that I had a clear understanding that there wasn’t much need to cling onto the things of this world because they would only last me a lifetime. When I think about this every mindset and I look back over the last sentence in the scripture of today, it got me thinking. We have to work for everything we have in this life, but none of it is worth living for or toiling through life after; so what is? If I come into this world naked and empty handed and I’m sure to leave this world empty handed what can I truly take from this world that will last an eternity? How wonderfully true and authentic is the word of God. With words chosen so carefully, God’s divinity is all over it…but I digress. The scripture points to the fact that there is nothing we can carry out of this life in our hands and it is rightfully so. With that being said, I submit to you today that there is something we can take from this life that we started out with – it’s just not anything of human making.

We all started as a soul that God predestined to live on this earth; a spirit placed in our earthly bodies.  We have origination in the spirit by God and we will return to spirit form. Now this may be deep but stay with me; coming from spirit into flesh we all took on sin, that offense separated us from God leaving a void in our spirit that could only be filled by Christ. Now here’s the kicker, our spirits will leave these bodies (this is most certainly true) but the real question would be: “did you get the Christ void filled in your spirit before you have to go back to the Father?” We may not be able to leave this life with anything in our hands but it is crucial that we leave with our spirits complete again with Christ filling us. The things of this world pale in comparison to taking a spirit with a gaping hole in it back to the Father!

Today we pray that we aren’t as concerned with striving and struggling through this life to acquire all of the things from this world that we can’t take with us, than we are about making sure that the spirit God gave us comes back to him completely repaired from the damages of the flesh. It is true that your hands can’t carry anything out of this world, but what kind of spirit will you take from this world; because you will take one before the Father. We pray that your heart is set on taking a Christ-filled spirit with you; that has the remnants of the struggles and striving for Jesus and is showcased by being filled with only one concern – HIM! Meditate on this and we pray that it has an impact and lasting effect on your life and spirit life today and forever more. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
