1 John 4:9

DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration: 1 John 4:9 – This is how God showed his love among us; He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.

Our definition of love today has a grave skew on it that has us desensitized to what it truly is and how it should be displayed. When we think of love, we consider the emotion of it, the beauty of being in love or if someone is deserving of it.  We have to stop looking at love as an adjective and more as a verb. When we change our perspective on love it will help us to understand how much God loves us and what his verb in love means for us.

How do you show someone that you love them? Do you constantly tell them that you love them? Do you write them little love notes that convey your message? Do you have someone else them how much you’re in love with them? Although some of these are possibilities, the reality is that when you want someone to know you love them, you show them! You make it a display for all to see and you make sure that the one you love can see it and experience it in a real way. No one will be able to attest to being loved if there wasn’t any action behind the statement. We make our love real by not only talking about it but making sure we show it in our daily actions.

So how does that translate in our relationship with God? Let’s start from our standpoint. We say that we love God and our Lord Jesus Christ but do we show it? Do we make it obvious for others to see and identify as a love that is genuine and authentic? Do others get that mushy feeling for your display of love for Jesus?  More importantly, do people even know that you’re in love with anyone for that matter? If we’re not showing our love for God and our Lord Jesus Christ, we are missing a key element that would signify that we are in true love with God. Now let’s look at what God does….

God has made his love more than obvious. He wants all to know and see that he loves us so much that he will put into action a plan that will bring us back into a relationship with him. God’s love for us motivated him to allow his son to come and die for our sins. With that, he made sure that we wouldn’t just know that he loves us but we have an example of his display of love so we can love as he first loved us.

Do you love in a reciprocal manner that is in effect to the love you’ve been shown? I submit to you today that in many relationships, if one person is showing love to the other party, it makes it easier and a determination to show love in return. Why? Because you want the relationship to work and you want to make sure you’re doing your part in the relationship.

Today, we have a decision to make. If you believe in the love of God through our Lord Jesus Christ and the love that was shown on the cross for us all, you should be motivated to show this same love back to God and to your common man. God has already made his display of how much he loves us, what are you going to do to show God that you love him as much as he loves you? We pray that you’re invested in being a love of God, but that his love shown is reason enough for you to do the same. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!!!
