1 Corinthians 6:19-20

DaySpring Daily Word of Inspiration: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Have you ever taken pride in something? You really cared for an object or possession and made sure everyone who knew you did the same?

Let’s take…ummm, an old classic car for instance. It’s terrible but you can see it totally restored with a little work. You pay the price for the car, knowing it can be restored but hoping it will come out the way you desire. You put in the time and money and there it is! You now have this beautiful 1957 Chevy sitting on low-profile tires, custom restored interior and all of the originals in dash. It is painted apple wood bacon red and features chrome accents. You have taken the time to purchase every part and were meticulous with every detail. The only cloth that touches it is your silk clothing when you sit inside and a diaper that wipes off the dust on the outside. If someone suggested eating in it, they would literally never be your friend again. This is your prized possession and you treat it accordingly.

Now let’s switch gears.  You and I are like this car. We were a beautiful wreck…originally. However, we needed to be restored. There were some dents, dings, bumps, scars and scrapes. Our interior was horrible! It didn’t look good at all, but someone came along and saw us exactly as we were and even greater than that, saw us how we could be. That someone was God. Then there was a great transaction; payment for the nasty heap of junk which is our souls. Jesus was the payment. Now under new ownership, God has a plan for his purchase. He restores it so that it is pristine again and uncompromised. After he fixes us up, he puts us on display in his mobile garage – our bodies. Now everyone should be able to see the great work that God has done and Jesus paid for through our bodies. Is that the case in your current circumstances?

Christian family, God has fixed his Holy Spirit inside each of our bodies. It is a beautiful thing too; immaculate in all its glory and ready for display! The question today is how are you taking care of your display case? Jesus has paid an inconceivable amount to purchase each of us? Are we abusing his purchase destroying HIS display case (our bodies)? You ask, how do I destroy the body? By polluting your body with negativity, abuse of substances, lack of concern for your eating habits, not monitoring what you watch, not monitoring what others are trying to put in you and so on and so forth. When these things get into your display case (your mind and body), you are destroying what God has put in you and what Jesus has paid so much for to have restored.

Today, we want you to go throughout this day with the heart to make a decision; to decide to treat God’s temple (your display case) with the utmost care because of what it is housing. Remember, people may not always be around to check out your display case but they will always be able to hear about what comes out of it. Think about it…

We pray that you begin to honor God with your body so that Jesus’ purchase can draw others in, not allow them to see the same old nasty car come out of the garage. You have been purchased and are being restored. Show off the goodness of God through your body and life. As God’s prized possession, act like it. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
