Drifting

Our drifting away from God is subtle, it sneaks up on us. It’s as if one day we are on fire for God, and the next day we wake up and are no longer in church. What happened? There are a number of reasons we may find ourselves disconnected from the Lord, but I submit all reasons can be summed up into one…sin. Sin separates us from God. Sin causes us to have shame, guilt and to withdraw from God.  Rather it be the sin of adultery, or the sin of pride, lust, greed, bitterness, idolatry, etc.…sin unchecked, unrepented, unconfessed,  will begin to control us and will manifest itself in our lives. Before we know it, we find ourselves living a lifestyle of ungodliness, no longer interested in the truth of the Word of God, no longer convicted of our sin, our prayer life has ceased, we stop serving in ministry, we no longer hang out with our Christian friends and eventually we stop pursuing God.

The good news is that there is hope for those who have wandered or are wandering off from God. The Bible teaches us that we can restore our relationship with the Lord by,

1-      Confessing and turning away from our sins. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9). “Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.” (Revelation 3:19)

2-      Letting go. We must let go of ANYTHING AND ANYONE that is a hindrance, distraction, or obstacle to us, preventing us from pursuing Christ. “…let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles…”( Hebrews 12:1)

3-      Pursuing Christ. Be intentional about restoring our relationship with God. Turn off the TV, put down the magazine, stay out of the clubs/bars, etc. and spend time with God. Commit to prayer, reading the Word, listening to Christian music, listening to sermons, going to church, etc. Actively pursue God.  “You will seek Me and find Me, when you search for me with all your heart”. (Jeremiah 29:13)

May we renew our  love with Jesus Christ, loving Him with all our heart, and with all our soul, and with all our mind.
